But even more amazing and encouraging is that those that have been traditionally oppressed and left out of the global dialogue are now connecting to the internet at unprecedented rates. Recent statistics indicate that from 2000 - 2006 the continent of Africa has increased their internet usage by 625.8 % . While there are still some notable barriers regarding technological infrastructure, that still must be over came in developing countries; it is clear that the internet is empowering new people everyday.
